Residents tell Spencer County Fiscal Court poor neighborhood roads cause vehicle damage
Summary
Residents of the Pilots Landing area told the Fiscal Court on Aug. 19 that potholes and lack of an alternate access road have caused daily safety concerns, an estimated 500 trips per day on Pilots Way and about $5,000 in vehicle repairs; officials outlined a repair timeline but made no immediate funding commitment.

At the public‑comment portion of the Spencer County Fiscal Court meeting on Aug. 19, resident Daniel Bright described longstanding problems with neighborhood roads in the Perfect Landing/Top Flight/Willow Island area and urged the county to schedule repairs.
"Residents traveled an estimated 500 trips over Pilot's Way and Cessna Court daily," Bright said, and he told the court residents have spent "over $5,000.00 in repairs to their vehicles as a result of the poor condition of the roads," adding that households pay substantial taxes and want road maintenance in return.
Esq. Travis outlined the timeframe for repairs that were scheduled to be done on the roads but the minutes record no immediate funding authorization at the meeting. Neighbor Rob Ray asked whether an access road off Van Dyke Mill would be provided because Pilots Way is currently the only entry; Travis described a timeline for construction of another dedicated road.
Another resident, Roy Legaspi, said he opposed a proposed levee tax, arguing it would benefit only some residents and urging the court to work within existing means rather than raise taxes until more information, such as comparative county pay rates, was available.
The court made no immediate commitments to new funding during public comment; several items related to roads and the Road Fund appeared later on the agenda under invoices and transfer approvals.
