The Spencer County Fiscal Court approved, on first reading, Ordinance No. 4 (FY2020) authorizing an interlocal cooperation agreement with the City of Taylorsville to jointly employ a drug task force employee.
County Attorney and Sheriff Herndon described the arrangement: the county would be responsible for the employee's salary and benefits while the City would provide a vehicle, fuel, maintenance and insurance. The sheriff said the hire has already taken place and that the candidate brings roughly 30 years of experience in narcotics work, a point offered by the sheriff to justify the arrangement.
The court approved first reading; the county attorney noted the draft had been sent to the Department for Local Government (DLG) for review. The agreement relies on the Kentucky Interlocal Cooperation Act (KRS sections 65.210–65.300) to authorize joint exercise of powers by the county and city. The item will return for subsequent review and final approval once the DLG and administrative details are complete.
