Resident warns court about possible $18 million courthouse plan and urges fiscal transparency

Roy LeGaspi used his public‑comment time on Nov. 18 to place his written statement on the record and to press the Fiscal Court for transparency about a reported courthouse renovation plan.
"Spencer County requested the Courthouse be expanded and renovated without asking the voters," LeGaspi told the court and submitted a written document for the minutes. He said the Administrative Office of the Courts has tentatively planned to request a renovation and addition to the Spencer County Courthouse in its 2022 budget at a cost of $18 million and, based on the percentage of space the county uses in the courthouse, that Spencer County’s proportionate share could be about $8,640,000. LeGaspi asked when the public would be notified and said he could not find records of Fiscal Court discussion of such spending.
LeGaspi urged the magistrates to investigate the matter, review alternatives such as leasing existing space in the town, and not to raise taxes to cover shortfalls in 911 funding. He closed by saying he would continue to press the issue on behalf of taxpayers.
