Simpson County Fiscal Court voted Aug. 19 to approve a resolution and an agreement to use Rural FLEX Program funds that would reimburse the county for road paving and related work up to $146,632. The court also approved the county road paving list and authorized the County Judge to sign necessary documents.
The court authorized advertising for bids to replace a culvert on Hack Brown Road and set a submission deadline of Oct. 1, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. County officials indicated the bids will be publicly solicited and evaluated through standard county procurement procedures.
Public Works Director Bobby Groves later told the court he had received an inquiry from a Texas engineering firm about a proposed solar farm south of town and asked whether the county had a road-usage agreement (RUA); Judge-Executive Mason Barnes asked Groves to set up a meeting with the firm and County Attorney Sam Phillips to discuss any required agreements and next steps.
The Rural FLEX funding approval and paving-list adoption were recorded by voice vote as part of the court's agenda motions.
