Court approves courthouse camera upgrades; OEM flags camera blind spots and messaging boards, P&Z to meet on easement text amendment

Simpson County Fiscal Court authorized Simply Secure Dec. 16 to make adjustments and additions to the courthouse camera system after OEM Director Robert Palmer and Maintenance Supervisor Paul Kelley reported additional blind spots.
Palmer told the court he and Kelley identified areas around the courthouse that need camera coverage and said the county should consider adding messaging boards that could slow traffic in communities or provide emergency road-closure notifications during flooding. The court approved the camera work on a motion that passed with Magistrates Chandler, Poston, Thurman and Judge Mason Bames voting yes and Magistrate Jeffrey Burr recusing.
Magistrate Marty Chandler asked about the status of communications towers; Judge Bames said he had not received an update and indicated OEM Director Palmer might have more information in a future report. Palmer also said memoranda of understanding for the radio system require individual agency signatures rather than a single county-level signature.
Judge Bames announced a special Planning & Zoning Commission meeting that evening to discuss a proposed text amendment regarding the use of grandfathered easements to create minor subdivision plats; if the commission approves a recommendation, the Fiscal Court may hold a special meeting Dec. 18 to consider accepting the recommendation.
The court adjourned at 9:43 a.m.
