At the Jan. 20 meeting of the Simpson County Fiscal Court, the Rotary Club presented two automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office for deployment in deputy supervisors’ cruisers. Lisa Deavers introduced the Rotary group and Robin Hollingsworth, Rotary Club President, discussed the club's projects; Sheriff Jere D. Hopson thanked the club and said the donated AEDs will be placed "on the road" in cruisers.
Sheriff Hopson also reported the county is at 91% tax collection and encouraged residents to contact state legislators about House Bill 51, a proposal referenced in the meeting that would, if enacted in its current form, freeze property taxes once a homeowner reaches age 65; the minutes note such a bill would not take effect until June 2027 if passed. The court recorded thanks to the Rotary Club and accepted the donation during its routine business approvals.
