Fiscal Court approves $468,295 budget amendment, hires firefighter and authorizes transfers

Simpson County Fiscal Court on Jan. 20 approved a second reading and final passage of Ordinance No. 220.266, Budget Amendment #2, totaling $468,295. The court also approved multiple cash transfers, a hire for the fire department and a one-time lien reduction for a property owner.
The court voted to adopt the budget amendment with a recorded yes vote from Magistrates Marty Chandler, Myron Thurman, Jeffrey Burr, Scott Poston and County Judge Executive Mason Barnes. The court approved the December financial statement subject to audit and authorized a cash transfer of $150,724 from the General Fund to the Jail Fund and $34,131.36 from the Federal Grant Fund to the General Fund.
Fiscal Court approved Resolution No. 2026-01-20EMP-FSFR to hire Evan Hardin as a full-time firefighter. The court also approved routine budget transfers between line items and authorized payment of bills and claims listed in the minutes.
On a separate action, the court agreed to reduce the demolition lien on a Gold City Road property to $7,000 for resident Brad Edwards. The vote on that lien reduction was split: Magistrates Scott Poston, Mason Barnes and Jeffrey Burr voted yes; Magistrate Myron Thurman recorded an abstention; Magistrate Marty Chandler recused himself from the vote.
The court authorized the county judge and treasurer to sign the financial statement and approved other routine motions and claims recorded in the meeting minutes. The meeting adjourned at 9:51 a.m.
