Summary
After discussion about storm-drain requirements and on-street parking, the council voted unanimously to table the Title 10 Chapter 3 sidewalk-installation ordinance and asked staff to add a cross-section and clarifying language.
The Salem City Council voted on Feb. 18 to table consideration of an ordinance amending Title 10 Chapter 3 on sidewalk installation so staff can add storm-drain requirements and a revised cross-section for the Salem Town Center design.
The public hearing on the ordinance produced no public comment. Council members raised technical concerns: the current town-center cross-section as presented would not allow on-street parking under the illustrated design, and Mayor Cristy Simons and other members asked staff to clarify storm drain availability and related requirements before advancing the ordinance.
Councilmember Paul Taylor moved to table the decision so staff could include a cross section in the resolution; the motion was seconded by Councilmember Cynthia Deveraux Rees and passed unanimously.
Staff will return the ordinance with additional technical details and an updated cross section for council consideration at a future meeting.
