Pike Road schedules Comp Plan special meeting; engineers say roundabout work nearly complete

At its Jan. 12 meeting, the Pike Road Town Council received an update on planning and engineering work and set a Special Called Meeting on the town’s Comprehensive Plan for Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, at 7 p.m.
Planning Senior Planner Darrell Rigsby told the council the Planning Commission met the previous week and approved two plats plus two conditional use permits; he said the two conditional use permits will be scheduled for a future council meeting. Rigsby also announced the Special Called Meeting on the Comprehensive Plan for Jan. 26 at 7:00 PM and councilmembers discussed scheduling a council work session to review proposed changes ahead of that meeting.
Town Engineer Brad Flowers provided an infrastructure briefing covering multiple paving and resurfacing projects, including Waugh roundabouts, the Marler/Vaughn ALDOT project, the Pike/Wallahatchie/Meriwether roundabout, Marler resurfacing handled by the county, and Trotman Road resurfacing by the county. Councilmembers discussed the final pieces of the Wallahatchie roundabout; Mayor G. Gordon Stone said the remaining curbing and signage work "should be completed hopefully in the next few weeks."
Mayor Stone introduced two staff hires who began work that day: Col. Jon Briggs, who will assist with the Best Practices for Business program, and Vince Hodges, formerly with WSFA, who will serve as Communications Director and Special Projects Manager. Mayor Stone said they "will both be great assets to our team." Councilwoman Mim Whatley and Councilman Marcus Robinson raised concerns about the condition of some local businesses, specifically Dollar General, citing trash and racks cluttering its parking lot; council members said Briggs will address the issue as part of his duties under the Best Practices program.
No formal actions on zoning or the Comp Plan were taken during the meeting; the Special Called Meeting on Jan. 26 is the next step for the Comprehensive Plan review.
