Dickson County Commission approves budget amendments, accepts road study and lowers Bakers Work Road speed to 35 mph

The Dickson County Commission on April 21 approved a package of county budget amendments, accepted a pavement assessment plan and set a new 35 mph speed limit on Bakers Work Road after residents raised safety concerns.
The commission voted 10-1 to authorize amendments to all county funds except those established for schools. Commissioner Stacey Batey moved the resolution and Commissioner Rusty Grove seconded it; Commissioner Danny Williams cast the lone nay. The motion was recorded as Resolution 04-2025-01.
Resident Emilie Dudas and resident Justin Dudas spoke during public comment urging action on Bakers Work Road, saying the road had seen "three (3) accidents" and that posted speeds were too fast. The commission later approved Resolution 04-2025-03, moved by Commissioner Cindi Gray and seconded by Commissioner Rusty Grove, to reduce the speed limit along the full length of Bakers Work Road to 35 mph; the measure passed by unanimous voice vote.
Commissioner Rusty Grove, seconded by Commissioner Jody Britt, moved to accept a pavement assessment plan from the Tennessee Department of Transportation that engages KCI Technologies Inc. as a third-party vendor to evaluate county roads and recommend maintenance and improvement priorities; that resolution (listed as 04-205-02 in meeting materials) passed by unanimous voice vote.
The commission also approved Resolution 04-2025-04 to donate a retired Dickson County Sheriff's Office vehicle to the Watertown Police Department (moved by Rusty Grove, seconded by Cindi Gray) and Resolution 04-2025-05 authorizing amendments to several school-related funds (moved by Rusty Grove, seconded by Cindi Gray); both passed by unanimous voice vote.
On routine business, the commission approved a list of submitted notaries on a motion by Commissioner Stacey Batey, seconded by Commissioner Becky Spicer, and heard announcements that the Budget Committee and Budget Advisory Committee will meet May 5, 2025 at 6:00 P.M. before the commission Work Session; the next regular session is scheduled for May 19, 2025 at 7:00 P.M. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 P.M. on a motion by Commissioner Randy Simpkins, seconded by Commissioner Stacey Batey.
