Sevier County authorizes engineer to restart Nuns Cove water-extension plans after CDBG funds ran out

The Sevier County Water Committee on Feb. 8 authorized Robert G. Campbell & Associates to revise and resubmit plans to the State to restart the Nuns Cove water-extension project, which stalled after earlier CDBG funds were exhausted.
Director Brent Shults told the committee that the Nuns Cove project began under a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) award but was not completed when grant funds ran out. Robert Campbell said his firm would need to resubmit plans to the State and may make minor changes as required by current permitting standards. Mayor Larry Waters said the Mayor’s Office will pursue alternative funding options outside of ARPA to finish the work.
Commissioner Mike Chambers moved to allow Robert G. Campbell & Associates to make the necessary changes to restart the project; Commissioner Scott Catlett seconded the motion, and the committee approved it unanimously.
The committee did not specify alternative funding sources at the meeting or provide an updated project schedule. The action authorizes engineering work necessary to pursue state approval and future construction funding.
