Dickson County Commission approves property purchase, speed limit change and $1.625 million in capital notes

The Dickson County Commission met Jan. 20, 2026, in Charlotte and approved a package of routine appointments and resolutions that together authorize up to $1,625,000 in capital borrowing and several operational actions.
Commissioners voted unanimously to authorize issuance of interest-bearing general obligation capital outlay notes, series 2026, in an amount not to exceed $775,000 and to authorize interest-bearing general equipment acquisition capital outlay notes, series 2026, in an amount not to exceed $850,000. Both measures passed by a voice vote, with Commissioners Becky Spicer and Carl Buckner handling the motion and second for the $775,000 authorization and Commissioners Jody Britt and Cindi Gray handling the motion and second for the $850,000 authorization.
The body also approved the 2026 Dickson County Road Report after it was submitted by Highway Chief Administrative Officer Jackie Hodges, and authorized purchase of real property adjacent to the Agriculture Center to expand county-owned facilities. The commission voted to set the speed limit on Nels Adams Road at 35 miles per hour.
In appointments, the commission appointed Jackie Fayette as Solid Waste Management Director (motion by Commissioner Rusty Grove, second by Commissioner Ray Ledger), named Kyle Moore, M.D., as Medical Examiner (motion by Commissioner Randy Simpkins, second by Commissioner Dwight McIllwain), and appointed Darrell James to a four-year term on the Water Authority Board (motion by Commissioner Ray Ledger, second by Commissioner Becky Spicer). A list of notaries submitted to the commission was also approved by unanimous voice vote.
The meeting record shows all recorded motions passed by unanimous aye voice vote; 11 commissioners were recorded present and one absent. Director of Schools Dr. Christie Sutherland told the commission she was not ready to present the schools' agenda item and the presentation was moved to the February meeting. The next regular session is scheduled for Feb. 17, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 7:32 p.m.
