Bland County Board of Supervisors adopts $21,446,252 FY2022 budget; school budget includes $2,688,516 in local funds

Chairman Stephen Kelley called the Bland County Board of Supervisors’ continued meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. May 7 at the Bland County Courthouse. After opening procedural items, the board unanimously approved the meeting agenda as amended to include authorization of a letter to the School Board with a financial plan.
At the meeting’s primary action, Supervisor Adam Kidd moved to adopt by resolution the FY2022 County and School Board budget in the amount of $21,446,252. Supervisor Randy Johnson seconded the motion. The board recorded a roll-call vote: Mr. Kidd — yea; Mr. Johnson — yea; Ms. Hodock — yea; and Mr. Kelley — yea. The motion passed unanimously.
The adopted budget assigns $9,716,554 to the School Board’s portion; the board recorded that $2,688,516 of that amount is local funds. Following the budget vote, Supervisor Karen Hodock moved, and Supervisor Adam Kidd seconded, a separate motion authorizing a letter to the School Board to communicate the financial plan for the FY22 school budget. That motion also passed unanimously.
No members of the public spoke during the public comment period. With formal business concluded, the board voted unanimously to adjourn.
The board’s immediate next step is to send the authorized letter to the School Board conveying the adopted financial plan for the school portion of the FY22 budget.
