Bland County raises quarterly solid waste fee to $43 and widens reduced-fee eligibility

At the April 27 meeting the Bland County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to increase the county solid waste quarterly fee from $36 to $43 and to change the reduced-fee eligibility threshold.
County Administrator Dr. Eric Workman told the board the proposed change raises the solid waste fee to $43 per quarter and increases the household income limit for reduced-fee qualification from no more than $800 per month to no more than $1,000 per month (expressed in the motion as a gross family income not exceeding $12,000 per year or $1,000 per month). During the public hearing, Dianna Baker asked how to apply for the reduced fee; Dr. Workman provided County Administration contact information.
The board adopted the modification effective July 1, 2021. The motion noted that the annual fee for qualified reduction is $43.
