Lunenburg supervisors adopt emergency pandemic ordinances, delay tax penalties

The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously May 14 to adopt two emergency ordinances tied to the county’s coronavirus response.
County Attorney Frank Rennie said Ordinance 20-1 implements temporary changes to certain filing deadlines and modifies public meeting and hearing procedures to help maintain continuity of local government operations during the pandemic; he told the board the ordinance had been properly advertised and would remain in effect for six months unless extended. The board approved the ordinance by roll call vote.
Rennie also reviewed Ordinance 20-2, which delays interest and penalty on real estate and personal property taxes due June 5, 2020, for 30 days past the due date. Supervisor Frank Bacon moved adoption; the board approved the measure by unanimous roll call.
Both ordinances had been temporarily approved at the April meeting and were formally reconsidered after public advertisement, the minutes show. The adoptions were taken by recorded roll call with all seven supervisors voting yes.
