Summary
The Board approved sale of a 2.52-acre parcel on Gary Road to Jerry Killen and adopted Ordinance 20-6 to continue emergency procedures for county business during the COVID-19 pandemic; the board also approved abating a past-due tax bill on the sold property.
The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors voted Sept. 10 to sell a 2.52+/- acre portion of tax map #058-((0A))-0-24 on Gary Road to Mr. Jerry Killen and to readopt Ordinance No. 20-6, extending emergency procedures governing public meetings and certain delegated authorities during the COVID-19 state of emergency.
County Attorney Frank Rennie told the board the county had purchased more land than needed for the Gary Road convenience center and advertised the excess parcel for sale. The board had previously voted on March 12, 2020 to sell the property to Killen after a scheduled public hearing. At the Sept. 10 meeting, the board approved the sale by roll call vote.
Rennie recommended approval of Ordinance 20-6, which cites Governor Ralph S. Northam’s Executive Order 51 and Code of Virginia emergency provisions and authorizes modified public meeting procedures, remote participation options, and limited delegation to the County Administrator to ensure continuity of government during the pandemic. The board approved the ordinance, which the minutes state remains in effect until repeal or the end of the local emergency.
The board also approved a resolution to abate the past-due tax bill on the portion of the Gary Road parcel sold to Killen.
All motions related to the sale, ordinance readoption, and tax abatement passed by roll call vote as recorded in the meeting minutes.
