Supervisors will ask School Board to resume in‑person reporting; prepare retirement resolution for commonwealth’s attorney

Lunenburg County supervisors on Oct. 8 agreed to ask the School Board to resume sending a representative to Board of Supervisors meetings after County Administrator Tracy M. Gee reported that the School Board had notified the chairman it would no longer attend.
Supervisor Robert Zava and others said school officials oversee the largest portion of the county’s budget and should present end‑of‑year reports in person. Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover moved — and the Board voted unanimously — to draft a letter, signed by all seven supervisors, requesting that the School Board send a representative to review monthly reports at supervisors’ meetings.
Separately, County Attorney Frank Rennie informed the Board that Commonwealth Attorney Robert Clement plans to retire Dec. 31, 2020. Rennie noted that under Virginia law the chief deputy would assume the office unless voters elect a replacement in a special election; the Board unanimously authorized preparing a resolution of retirement to be presented to Clement.
The board did not set a date for further action on either matter; drafting the letter to the School Board and preparing the retirement resolution were assigned as follow‑up items.
