Summary
The board approved multiple operational contracts and project actions: AJ's Excavating ($51,000) for an Animal Control kennel yard (ARPA funds), a Routeware Recollect three‑year recycling scheduling tool at $203.32/month, a three‑year audit services extension with Maner Costerisan, and Change Order #4 to the Point Betsie Shoreline Protection Project for $48,500.
At its Sept. 12 regular meeting the Benzie County Board of Commissioners approved a series of contracts and project actions the board described as operational and capital items.
The board accepted AJ's Excavating's proposal, not to exceed $51,000, to excavate, construct a retaining wall and prepare for a village utility connection for the Animal Control kennel yard project; funds are allocated from ARPA. The motion was made by Commissioner Jeannot and seconded by Commissioner Markey and carried on roll call.
Separately, commissioners accepted a three‑year agreement with Routeware Recollect for a website and scheduling tool to support recycling and waste collection events, at a monthly rate of $203.32; the chair was authorized to sign the agreement.
Commissioner Nye moved, and Commissioner Cunningham seconded, a three‑year extension to Maner Costerisan for fiscal year financial auditing services, subject to legal review; the board approved the extension and authorized the chair to sign.
The board also approved Change Order #4 to the Point Betsie Shoreline Protection Project agreement with Barr Engineering for $48,500 and approved a related budget amendment to allow the county to accept reimbursement revenues from the Friends of Point Betsie and to pay project invoices. Commissioner Cunningham moved the change order; Commissioner Jeannot seconded; motion carried.
The meeting minutes record roll call approvals for these items but do not include contract documents, scope-of-work details, or procurement backup in the public minutes. County staff present (including Jesse Zylstra and Ed Hoogterp) answered questions during the session.
Next steps: Contract documents will be executed and project procurement processes, legal review and budget amendments will be handled by county administration and relevant departments.
