The Benzie County Board of Commissioners voted Sept. 12 to accept a $300,000 grant award from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) Trust Fund for the Railroad Point Water Access project.
Commissioner Markey moved the acceptance and Commissioner Nye seconded. The motion authorized the chair to sign the Development Project Agreement. The minutes note the Grand Traverse Conservancy will handle the required matching funds. The roll call vote was unanimous of members present and the motion carried.
Ed Hoogterp was present to answer questions about the project and grant. The minutes do not include a detailed project timeline or construction schedule; they record only that the county accepted the grant award and authorized signature of the agreement.
Next steps: county staff and project partners will proceed with grant administration and coordinate match funding through the Grand Traverse Conservancy; the board did not approve specific construction contracts at this session.
