County staff told the board on Dec. 9 that Canal View has 113 residents and that the property’s sale could have significant fiscal consequences if current Class 3 status is lost.
Adam Laplander, reporting on facility occupancy and operations, said the facility had 113 residents and 38 Thanksgiving visitors. A representative from Plan Moran told the board that if Canal View is sold the county’s Class 3 status for the property would be lost and that approximately $7.3 million could be recaptured by the state. Laplander said the county has received one quote of $6,500 for a survey/appraisal and was expecting a second quote.
Board members received the update and asked that additional information and quotes be provided; several public commenters later in the meeting also raised concerns about Canal View and county-held properties. The board did not take an action to sell or transfer Canal View at this meeting.
