Houghton County says ARPA funds fully allocated; state portal problems delayed submissions

County Administrator Rheault told the Houghton County Board of Commissioners on Jan. 5 that all American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds allocated to the county have been spent or committed.
Rheault said the county attempted to submit project documentation by the December deadline but encountered problems because the state portal was down. She said the state has extended the submission deadline to December 2026 and that she will email all commissioners a list of the late-approved projects.
The administrator did not provide a detailed, line-by-line accounting of projects during the work session. She said only that all ARPA monies had been used and that staff would follow up with a list of late projects for commissioners to review.
No formal board action was taken at the work session on ARPA reallocation or adjustments; Rheault indicated follow-up correspondence would be provided to commissioners.
