Screven County commissioners adopt FY 2025-26 budget; approve vehicle, surplus sale and prison cooler purchase

The Screven County Board of Commissioners on June 24 unanimously adopted a resolution approving the county’s fiscal year 2025-26 budget and approved several equipment purchases and a surplus sale during a 9:00 a.m. session at the Screven County Courthouse.
Commissioner Rosa Romeo moved to adopt the resolution to approve the FY 2025-26 budget; Vice-Chairman J.C. Warren seconded the motion and it carried by unanimous vote. The minutes note a copy of the resolution will be placed in the county minute book.
The board also approved a $5,000 purchase of a vehicle for the Sheriff’s Department from the City of Sylvania. Commissioner J.C. Warren made the motion; Commissioner Rosa Romeo seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Commissioner Mike Dixon moved to declare a 2010 Ford Expedition used by the Sheriff’s Department as surplus and to advertise it for sale on GovDeals; Commissioner Rosa Romeo seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Commissioner Rosa Romeo moved to purchase a cooler for the county prison from Dogtown Heating & Air for $8,300, with payment to come from either telephone account funds or SPLOST funds; Commissioner Edwin Lovett seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
County Manager Lori Burke told the board she had information from the Tax Assessor’s office about assessment values that were recently mailed to taxpayers. The board agreed to move its July meeting to July 15, 2025, at 9:00 a.m.
Chairman Will Boyd adjourned the meeting at 9:15 a.m.
