Auditor briefs commission on four medical cannabis dispensary applications and review timeline

Auditor Ben Kyte briefed the Minnehaha County Commission Dec. 21 on the county’s handling of medical cannabis dispensary applications under Ordinance 60‑21.
Kyte said the Auditor’s Office accepted four applications between Nov. 29 and Dec. 13 and posted required notice of the selection process on the county website Dec. 13. A random selection to determine the order of application review was held Dec. 17 in the commission chambers. The ordinance allows a 60‑day review period; based on the posted dates the review window for the selected application will conclude Feb. 15, 2022.
Following review the Auditor’s Office will present the highest‑ranked application that is compliant with the ordinance to the Commission for further action. Kyte reiterated procedural deadlines and said the Auditor’s Office would follow the ordinance’s selection and notice requirements during review.
No action was taken at the Dec. 21 meeting beyond the briefing.
