Actions at a glance: the commission appointed Allyson Henley as City County Health Department Director (vote 3-0); authorized removal of John Butters and addition of Captain Adam Trahan on the Cowley County Jail commissary account at Union State Bank (vote 3-0); approved a temporary part-time Flex Systems Administrator position for the sheriff’s office to support the Spillman Flex records system not to exceed $27,000 or one year (vote 3-0); approved purchase of a replacement clothes dryer for the jail not to exceed $8,407 (vote 3-0); approved transfer of environmental services and floodplain management from the Health Department to Cowley County, with floodplain duties moving immediately to Emergency Operations (vote 3-0); appointed Carrol Underwood to fill the unexpired term of Beaver Township Clerk (vote 3-0); approved 12 township annual reports (vote 3-0); and approved annual rural fire-district reports for Fire Districts 2, 4 and 8 (vote 3-0). The commission dismissed a proposed road vacation along 77th Road in Creswell Township after the U.S. Department of Justice asked that the road not be vacated because the change would landlock property managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (vote 3-0).
A non-routine vote occurred on a request to write a letter of support for the 70th anniversary of The Lawrence Welk Show national debut; the board approved the requested letter on a 2-1 vote (Commissioners Wilt and Maxwell in favor; Vice Chairman Groom opposed).
The meeting concluded after brief discussion of a proposed alternate transmission-line route from Evergy and other routine reports; commissioners adjourned at 10:01 a.m.
