Electoral Board approves training schedule, registrar says machines will stay locked in office

The Charlotte County registrar told the Electoral Board Thursday that Officer of Election training for the Nov. general election will take place Oct. 26–28 with make-up appointments Oct. 29–30 and listed times and locations for each session.
The registrar proposed moving training from the courtroom to the waiting room and said he plans to keep voting machines locked in his office when the office is closed. He later stated in the meeting that security of the voting machines is the Electoral Board’s responsibility.
Training schedule provided by the registrar: Oct. 26 — 1 p.m. CAP; 5 p.m. Cullen/Red House Oct. 27 — 10 a.m. Bacon/Saxe; 1 p.m. Phenix; 5 p.m. County Seat Oct. 28 — 10 a.m. Keysville; 1 p.m. Drakes; 5 p.m. Red Oak/Wyliesburg Oct. 29–30 — make-up sessions by appointment
The board deferred action on the maintenance-contract review with Atlantic Election Services to next month so members can compare the current vendor contract to the signed prior agreement and verify fees. The registrar was asked to check whether fees changed and to locate the prior signed contract for board review.
Separately, the board discussed a planned relocation of the Drakes polling place to a new firehouse in the future; the registrar said the town clerk had informed him the current facility can still be used for the November election.
