State Police hold registrar office computers; board flags polling-place fixes and pending L&A testing

CHARLOTTE COUNTY — County Administrator Dan Witt told the Charlotte County Electoral Board June 2 that the State Police still have computers taken from the Registrar's office and could not provide a timeframe for their return, a development board members said may affect office operations and testing schedules.
Board members also discussed a building inspector's report that identified issues at several polling places; the board agreed to schedule visits to assess and document required repairs and to set a date for those visits at the July meeting so Secretary Mr. Fane can take part.
Registrar Jenni Booth reported that voting machines have been updated but that required Logic & Accuracy (L&A) testing has not been done yet. Board members noted the combination of unreturned equipment and outstanding testing could affect readiness for upcoming elections.
The board also discussed an apparent discrepancy between press reporting and public-record requests: a local paper reported an investigation had found allegations unfounded, but board members said FOIA requests showed no record of such an investigation. The board flagged the inconsistency for follow-up.
No timetable for returning the computers or completing L&A testing was provided at the meeting. The board adjourned after directing staff to recover documentation and to plan polling-place visits at the July meeting.
