Charlotte County registrar reports 1,000 unfiled voter cards; 12 missing applications entered

CHARLOTTE COUNTY — The Charlotte County Electoral Board was told June 2 that office staff had found about 1,000 voter registration cards that had not been filed in local files but that each card had been verified and processed in the state voter-registration system.
Registrar Jenni Booth reported the discovery during her regular report and said staff had also identified twelve voter registration applications that were not present in the state system. She told the board those twelve applications were entered into the state system and registration cards were mailed to the applicants.
The finding prompted questions from Vice Chairman Glenwood Foster about whether the office had retained a list of the 12 applications that were missing from the state system. Booth said the list had not been retained; after discussion the board directed staff to recover or reconstruct the list for documentation.
Board member Hazel Bowman Smith said the public should be informed about the issue. The board did not vote on formal discipline or policy changes at the meeting; members agreed to pursue recovery of the records and further review.
Booth also reported other routine administrative updates: two new laptops and docking stations had been ordered for the administration office, assistant positions advertised through May 20 have been filled, and the office is processing candidate information for upcoming town elections in November.
The board did not set a schedule for a public notification beyond noting the need to recover documentation; members said further steps would be addressed in follow-up meetings.
