Argo mayor says he will press Norfolk Southern after ATRIP grant talks; Lyles Lane work to start this quarter

Mayor Randy Hettich updated the City of Argo Council on transportation and grant efforts at the Jan. 12 meeting, saying he met with the Alabama Department of Transportation about an ATRIP grant and intends to contact Norfolk Southern to move the related project forward.
Hettich told the council the Lyles Lane project is slated to begin this quarter. He also said department heads attended a grant-writing class and are seeking funding to purchase a backup generator for City Hall.
The mayor said he had signed a Notice to Proceed for the Roulain Road culvert replacement (see separate agenda item) and apologized for any inconvenience the construction may cause, promising sufficient notice before work begins. Councilmember Rick Hopkins suggested crews use the Roulain Road closure as an opportunity to clean ditches that Hopkins says are causing local flooding.
The matters are largely procedural at this stage: the council was briefed and assigned follow-ups rather than adopting new policy. Hettich said he will report back after his meeting with the St. Clair County Commission and Alabama Power about the Sanie Road closure.
