Council hears events update: youth turkey-calling expo, fishing clinic, trash pickups and a 5K

Morrison described plans for teaching stations, volunteer supplies (bags, grabbers, gloves, t-shirts) and food partners for several events. He noted liability forms and partner organizations (including Coosa Riverkeeper) had been arranged for the fishing clinic and volunteer cleanups.
Council members thanked event organizers and suggested safety coordination with county resources for roadside pickups near interstate ramps. The mayor and staff said they would follow up on logistics and volunteer coordination.
Additionally, council discussed paving a parking lot near the park/Walmart property; the mayor said a county estimate suggested about $45,000 for a tar-and-gravel base and roughly $110,000 for a full asphalt solution, and council asked staff to revisit funding and timing options.
Next steps: event organizers will finalize volunteer logistics and liability paperwork; staff will follow up with the council on parking-lot cost details and scheduling.
