Resident tells Fiscal Court small-county residents cannot bear repeated tax increases

During the Communications from Citizens portion of the Dec. 2 meeting, Roy Legaspi told the Spencer County Fiscal Court he believed residents did not want tax increases and urged magistrates not to raise taxes.
Legaspi said, "It seemed like there was a proposed tax increase at every meeting." He referenced the 911 committee, levy issues and plans for a new courthouse where the county might pay a portion of construction costs; he described Spencer County as a small county with a small tax base and residents who work paycheck to paycheck, saying that even small increases affect households that try to live within their means. He asked magistrates to hold budget meetings and to consider voters’ preferences when making tax decisions.
