EMS director warns of staffing losses over pay; court approves door openers and two hires

Chris Limpp, identified in the agenda as the EMS director, told Spencer County Fiscal Court on Jan. 6 that his department was losing staff to nearby counties offering higher wages. Limpp presented a salary comparison for Anchorage, Middletown, Highview and other districts to illustrate the pay gap.
"He is losing staff to other counties who are paying more," the minutes record. Magistrates discussed funding options; Esq. Travis expressed support for considering a special taxing district for EMS funding but no formal action was taken on that approach at the meeting.
The court approved replacing two additional EMS bay door openers at a cost of $3,050 based on a job quote from B & J Overhead Door Service. The court also approved two personnel actions: hiring James Houchins as a full-time Animal Control employee at $12.50 per hour, pending a drug screen and background check; and hiring Jon Guess as a part-time paramedic at $13.50 per hour, also pending screening. Both hires were approved unanimously.
Limpp's presentation and the hires signal short-term steps to maintain EMS operations, while discussion of a special taxing district suggests possible longer-term funding options under consideration.
