Spencer County Fiscal Court approves routine bills, holds $3,745 jail-housing charge for review

SPENCER COUNTY, Ky. — The Spencer County Fiscal Court voted Feb. 17 to approve routine invoices and transfers but withheld a $3,745 inmate-housing charge for follow-up.
Esq. Travis moved and Esq. Brewer seconded a motion to approve expenditures, purchases, invoices and transfers. The motion carried with all members present voting “aye” and Esq. M. Moody absent; the court specifically excused one invoice from Bullitt County for inmate housing and left that charge pending further information.
The invoice-hold followed a broader review of jail-related expenses. The packet included a Shelby County detention invoice for $21,390 for January housing; the Bullitt County charge of $3,745 drew additional questions from the magistrates during review. The clerk’s registers and the judge’s communications noted a recent letter from the Shelby County detention center about per-diem and transport rates.
During discussion the sheriff explained that Deputy Tim Murphy had been using his personal vehicle and paying for fuel out of pocket; the office obtained a county gas card and the deputy will use county vehicles or the county gas card for future fuel needs. The court approved reimbursements and other routine payments while pausing action on the Bullitt County housing bill until county staff can provide clarification.
The clerk’s supplemental documents also listed an interfund transfer of $50,000 from the General Fund to the Jail Fund to address jail-related shortfalls and several smaller transfers to cover overages in maintenance, zoning notices and animal-care expenses.
The Fiscal Court adjourned at 8:03 p.m.
