Spencer County approves $1-per-year lease of two sheriff vehicles and authorizes equipment packages

Spencer County Fiscal Court reviewed a proposed Vehicle Leasing Agreement on Feb. 3 under which private lessor Stephen Satterfield would lease two used vehicles (a 2015 Ford Explorer and a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee) to the county for $1.00 per year. Sheriff Scott Herndon explained the arrangement and the court authorized the Judge to enter into the lease, with corrections and subject to approval by the County Attorney and county magistrate review.
The court also considered equipment for recently purchased sheriff vehicles. The court approved a police equipment package with push bumper priced at $5,272.34 per vehicle (motion by Esq. M. Moody, seconded by Esq. Beaverson; unanimous). Separately, the court authorized up to $955.85 for a remote spotlight for one used vehicle; that motion passed with all present voting aye except Esq. Beaverson who voted nay.
The lease assigns responsibility for insurance, maintenance and fueling to the county; the lease term in the document is 12 months with an option to purchase at a negotiated price after the term. The court approved related expenditures and an $11,000 transfer between accounts as part of the consent approvals at the meeting.
The decisions move forward vehicle availability and equipment readiness for Sheriff's operations, subject to final legal review of the lease by the county attorney.
