Spencer County approves $1.50 EMT pay step for two staff upon certification and renews employee health plan

Spencer County Fiscal Court on April 20 approved two personnel and benefits measures: a pay-step upgrade for two EMS employees who obtain Advanced EMT certification and a renewal of the county's employee health insurance plan with the KACo Benefits Group.
EMA director Chris Limpp had requested the step increases by e-mail and explained the state had changed emergency regulations that would allow two staff to upgrade sooner than anticipated. The court "ordered to increase the pay rate by $1.50 per hour of Robert Winn and Mardh Atherton as advanced EMTs," with the pay to take effect the day the state upgraded their certification; the motion passed unanimously.
The court also considered a Phil Brown Insurance presentation and KACo materials showing a projected renewal increase for the county's plan. County-specific figures in the packet showed a 9.2% increase for Spencer County; the KACo letter cited a 9.49% average increase across the association. The insurance committee recommended the renewal and the court approved the proposal in a unanimous roll-call vote.
County officials noted the changes in emergency-room and prescription drug cost-sharing provisions included in the new plan documents and discussed budgetary implications as county revenue projections remain uncertain during the COVID‑19 emergency.
