Judge Barnes reports Fish & Wildlife zone review, total loss at Shyne Labs fire; parks events and tax-collection notices highlighted

During his reports to the Fiscal Court, County Judge/Executive Mason Barnes said Ben Robinson of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife responded to Simpson County’s request to change from Zone 3 to Zone 2 for deer-hunting designations. Barnes said the board that makes that decision will not meet until August. He also commended the county’s fire department for its response to a major industrial fire at the CBD oil facility Shyne Labs in the Wilkey North Industrial Park, which resulted in a total loss of that facility.
Magistrate Nathaniel Downey gave community notices: 17 teams will play in the Little League District Tournament at Community Park (June 25–30); F-S Parks & Recreation will sponsor an Independence Day Parade; and summer movie nights at Lincoln Park and Community Park will begin July 9 and alternate through the season. Downey said park maintenance issues are being addressed.
Magistrate Marty Chandler attempted to move an amendment to the county’s administrative code to bar county employees from working for vendors that supply the county; the motion died for lack of a second. County Attorney Sam Phillips said delinquent tax bills are at the County Clerk’s Office, that his office has sent 30- and 60-day notices, and he encouraged payment before the tax sale in August.
