At its Aug. 16 meeting, Simpson County Fiscal Court accepted the only bid received for two 2022 pickup trucks for the Sheriff’s Department at $37,744 each from Don Franklin Auto of Somerset, Ky. Magistrate Myron Thurman moved acceptance of the bid; Magistrate Scott Poston seconded and the court approved the purchase unanimously and authorized Judge Executive Mason Barnes to sign necessary documents.
The court also authorized increasing Sheriff Hopson’s bond (No. 82C231572) to $750,000 for the three-month peak tax-collection period from Oct. 1, 2022, through Jan. 1, 2023. The increase was approved to provide higher coverage during the scheduled tax-collection season.
Separately, the court approved a contract addendum with the jail’s food-service provider (recorded in the minutes as Kellwell Food Service) to implement a price increase effective Oct. 1, 2022, and authorized Judge Barnes to sign the addendum. The minutes do not record the percentage increase or adjusted per-meal prices — only that an addendum and an effective date were approved.
The court also authorized an annual generator maintenance agreement (EVAPAR) for the Historic Courthouse at $415 per year. These actions were recorded as routine procurement and contract-authority decisions taken by the court to maintain public-safety operations and facilities.
