Simpson County keeps 2022 tax rates unchanged and approves budget amendment

Simpson County Judge/Executive Mason Barnes opened a duly advertised public hearing on the county's proposed 2022 tax rates and, after receiving no public comment, the fiscal court approved Ordinance No. 220.242 setting county rates unchanged from last year: 10.0 cents per $100 of assessed value for real and personal property, 16.1 cents per $100 for motorboats and motor vehicles, and 10.5 cents per $100 for aircraft.
The court also approved second reading of FY22/23 Budget Ordinance No. 220.243, Amendment No. 1, in the amount of $900,532.94. Both measures were adopted by recorded motions and unanimous votes; the ordinance vote was recorded as yes votes from Magistrates Marty Chandler, Nathaniel Downey, Scott Poston, Myron Thurman and Judge Barnes.
Judge Barnes opened the hearing under KRS 68.245(5)(c). The court acknowledged certified tax-rate notices from independent taxing districts: the Library District reported certified 2022 rates of 5.90¢ (real property), 7.89¢ (personal property) and 3.80¢ (motor vehicles and watercraft) per $100; the Ambulance District reported 3.60¢ for real and personal property and 4.00¢ for motor vehicles and watercraft per $100. Both district rate receipts were acknowledged by unanimous motions.
