Sevier County committee approves building namings, authorizes leasing talks and convenience‑center fees

The Sevier County Intergovernmental Committee unanimously approved several administrative actions at its May 9, 2024 meeting held by the Sevier County Board of Commissioners.
Commissioner Kent Woods called the meeting to order and asked the committee to consider naming the new courts building the “Rex Henry Ogle Justice Center” and the General Sessions Clerk Office the “Connie Holt Memorial General Sessions Clerk Office.” Commissioner Carroll Rauhuff moved to approve the namings; Commissioner Ray Ogle seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The committee also authorized the Mayor’s Office to enter discussions with the Duncan family about leasing downtown property for possible future expansion. Commissioner Michael Maddron moved to authorize negotiations; Commissioner Chad Ogle seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
On convenience centers, Assistant County Mayor Matt Rudder updated the committee on site planning for Center View, Pigeon Forge, White School, the Gatlinburg Recycling Center and a proposed site in Wears Valley. Following discussion, Commissioner Kent Woods moved that fee collection under the Convenience Center Operations Policy begin once the Center View site is operational; the motion also directed staff to inform the public of changes and to coordinate enforcement with the Sheriff’s Office. Commissioner Michael Maddron seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting closed after a motion to adjourn by Commissioner Carroll Rauhuff, seconded by Commissioner Chad Ogle; the session ended at 6:31 PM.
