Sevier County steering committee delays courthouse naming, confirms appointment and issues recognition

Vice Mayor Bryan McCarter presented Resolution 2024-05-03 to confirm the appointment of Commissioner Melissa Godfrey to the Intergovernmental, Delinquent Tax and Emergency Services committees. Commissioner Ronnie Allen moved to accept the resolution; Commissioner Harold Pitner seconded. The committee voted unanimously to approve the confirmations.
Mayor Waters then presented Proclamation 2024-05-01 recognizing the Gatlinburg-Pittman High School girls basketball team for advancing to the 2024 TSSAA Class AA state championship tournament. Commissioner Carroll Rauhuff moved to accept the proclamation; Commissioner Ronnie Allen seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The committee accepted the Board of Commissioners' final agenda for the May 20 meeting without objection. Mayor Waters also proposed canceling the regular June 17 commission meeting and holding a special session called by the mayor on Monday, June 24; Commissioner Carroll Rauhuff moved to approve the schedule change, Commissioner Ronnie Allen seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Commissioner Ronnie Allen made a motion to adjourn; Commissioner Dale Hill seconded, and the meeting concluded at 5:11 p.m.
What happens next: The courthouse-naming resolution will remain off the May 20 commission agenda and is expected to return for consideration at the commission's June meeting. The confirmed committee appointments and the proclamation were recorded as approved by the steering committee.
