Rebecca Lee, Tennessee Fourth Judicial District public defender, addressed the Sevier County Budget Committee on June 6 and requested two additional attorneys for the Sevier County General Sessions Court, saying her office’s request for state funding had been denied. Lee asked that the cost be split among the four local governments that use the court: Sevier County, the City of Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.
Mayor Larry Waters told the committee he will speak with the other local governments and report back at the next Budget Committee meeting. The transcript records Lee’s request and the mayoral follow-up; no formal motion or vote on the staffing request is recorded in the transcript.
