The Dickson County Commission on Feb. 18 heard mixed public comment on a rezoning request from Derrick Gann to change two parcels on Abiff Road (Tax map 145, Parcels 16.00 & 16.18, 10.82 acres) from A-1 (agricultural) to R-1 (residential). Commissioners moved the item to the March County Commission meeting for further consideration.
At the public hearing, Patti Corbitt praised Gann’s planned buildings. In contrast, David Rivers urged the commission to keep the land zoned A-1, saying he was concerned about smaller lots, increased traffic and reduced water pressure if more homes are built. Thomas Parchment and Melinda Wright told commissioners they supported the project and the quality of the proposed homes. Mary Lambert opposed the project, saying motorists already travel too fast on the road and that adding houses would worsen conditions.
Commissioner Jeff Spencer moved to place the rezoning request on the March agenda; the motion was seconded by Commissioner Becky Spicer and passed by a unanimous aye voice vote. The commission did not take a final vote on the rezoning request at the Feb. 18 meeting.
The hearing record shows local residents raised traffic and infrastructure concerns as the principal objections; proponents emphasized building quality. The commission scheduled a continued hearing to allow additional review and formal consideration at the March meeting.
