Dickson County Commission approves $500,000 paving appropriation, road dedications and appointment

At its Aug. 16, 2021 meeting in Charlotte, the Dickson County Commission approved a $500,000 amendment to fund additional road paving, accepted dedication of subdivision roads, approved insurance and tax-relief measures, and appointed Beth Garrett to fill a commission vacancy. All actions passed by unanimous voice vote.
The Dickson County Commission on Aug. 16, 2021, voted unanimously to amend county budgets to fund road paving and to accept several administrative resolutions and appointments.
Chairman and County Mayor Bob Rial presided over the meeting, which convened at 7:00 P.M. County Clerk Luanne Greer recorded attendance and the minutes. Commissioner Dwight McIllwain moved to approve the July 19, 2021 minutes; Commissioner Mike Petty seconded and the motion passed by a unanimous aye voice vote.
The commission appointed Ms. Beth Garrett to fill the vacancy left by Commissioner Wayne Durham. Commissioner Danny Williams moved and Commissioner Carl Buckner seconded the appointment; the motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
Votes at a glance: Resolution 08-2016-02 authorized $500,000 to be appropriated from the Capital Projects Fund (Fund 171) to the Highway Department to fund additional road paving. The commission also approved Resolution 08-2016-01 to accept dedication of private roads within Phase Six of DeLacy Point Subdivision for addition to the county road map and maintenance by the county. Both resolutions passed by unanimous aye voice votes.
Other measures approved included Resolution 08-2016-03, which accepted the County Trustee’s Report of Errors and Double Assessments, and Resolution 08-2016-04, which authorized continued participation in the county group health insurance plan and established a premium supplement covering 50% of premiums for employees aged at least 62 but not older than 64 who have been employed in good standing for the last ten years. Resolution 08-2016-05 authorized county participation in the State of Tennessee’s Property Tax Relief program under Title 67, Chapter 5, Part 7, providing refunds for eligible elderly low-income homeowners, disabled homeowners and disabled veterans. Each resolution passed by a unanimous aye voice vote.
The commission moved the public rezoning request by Sid Dumas/CBS Investments (Cowan Road, Tax Map 121, Parcel 039.01, 49.33 acres) from R-1 (PUD) to A-1 (Agricultural) to the September meeting after noting no one was present to speak for or against the request. County Clerk Luanne Greer presented a slate of notary applicants; Commissioner Clayton Ellis moved to approve the list and Commissioner Becky Spicer seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Announcements included the Slayden Homecoming fundraiser scheduled for Sept. 11, 2021, a first-Saturday breakfast in Cumberland Furnace on Sept. 4, 2021, and the next regular session on Sept. 20, 2021 at 7:00 P.M. in the Buford L. (Booty) Reed, Jr. County Commission Chamber. The meeting adjourned at 7:10 P.M.
