Bland County supervisors declare open-air burn emergency, approve ARPA funds for emergency vehicle and set FY23 budget hearing

On appropriations, the board approved a motion by Supervisor Keith Costello, seconded by Supervisor Stephen Kelley, to appropriate funds including "$500, $125 from each Supervisors' Fund for Teacher and Employee Appreciation" and to appropriate $48,361 from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF) to the department for an emergency service vehicle and equipment. The motion passed by roll-call vote (Costello, Kelley, Kidd — yea).
County Administrator Dr. Eric Workman reviewed the proposed FY23 budget. The board voted to amend the FY23 budget calendar, authorize advertising in the Bland County Messenger on May 25, 2022, schedule a public hearing on the proposed FY23 budget for June 2, 2022 at 5:00 p.m., and set adoption of the proposed budget for June 10, 2022. That motion was made by Supervisor Keith Costello, seconded by Supervisor Stephen Kelley, and approved by roll call.
The meeting adjourned on a unanimous motion. The board set its next meeting for Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 5:00 p.m. in the Bland County Courthouse.
