Board honors retiring Commonwealth Attorney Robert E. Clement and approves consent agenda and appointments

The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors presented a Resolution of Retirement to Commonwealth Attorney Robert E. Clement, who will retire Dec. 31, 2020 after more than 40 years prosecuting criminal cases in the county. The resolution cites his initial appointment as assistant commonwealth’s attorney in March 1980, appointment as commonwealth’s attorney in October 1981, and long record of service.
The board approved the consent agenda by roll call vote; the consent agenda included the Oct. 8, 2020 minutes, the treasurer’s August and September reports, and warrants for approval totaling $953,403.90 across payroll, taxes, benefits and accounts payable.
Other routine actions approved included acceptance of a $90 DMV Dog and Cat Sterilization Fund payment to be forwarded to the Southside SPCA for low-cost spay/neuter services, approval of the Abstract of Votes from the Nov. 2020 General Election, and appointments: Supervisor T. Wayne Hoover was appointed to the Crossroads Community Services Board to fill an unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2022, and Nancy Turner was reappointed to the Social Services Advisory Board for a four-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2021.
The board also scheduled a public hearing at the December meeting on an ordinance to adopt the Lunenburg County Circuit Court Fee Schedule (July 1, 2020) as an appendix to the county code.
