Lunenburg schools plan four‑day elementary schedule and expect CARES funding

Assistant Superintendent James Abernathy told the Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors on March 11 that elementary students would resume four‑day in‑person instruction the following week, and that the district would extend the same schedule to secondary schools if the elementary transition was successful.
Abernathy said the 2021–22 budget figures were calculated assuming 1,550 students; he also advised the district expects a third allocation of CARES Act funding, "over one million dollars," intended primarily for addressing learning loss, maintenance, sanitation and cleaning. He said the district is planning for a more normal, pre‑pandemic setup in the fall.
No vote or formal action accompanied the report; the Board received the update for its files and future budget review.
