Lunenburg supervisors approve two‑year hangar lease at county airport

The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors voted March 11 to approve an airport hangar lease with Daniel E. Bond, Inc. that will allow the company to operate an aircraft mechanic shop on roughly two acres at the Lunenburg County Airport.
Administrator Tracy M. Gee told the Board that Airport Manager Larry Way had been contacted by Daniel Bond seeking the lease. County Attorney Frank Rennie said he had reviewed the written agreement and found it satisfactory. The Board closed the public hearing and approved the lease by roll call vote (six yes, one absent).
Under the signed lease, the initial term runs from March 1, 2021, through Feb. 28, 2023, and will automatically renew for successive two‑year terms unless terminated with 180 days’ notice. The initial rent is $650 per month; renewals will use the most recent Consumer Price Index to determine increases and either party may request renegotiation with 60 days’ notice. The lessee is required to pay any local real estate tax on the property, utilities and personal property taxes, and to maintain at least $1,000,000 in general liability insurance naming both lessee and Lunenburg County.
The lease includes standard provisions for abatement of rent if the premises are substantially damaged and reserves the county’s right to inspect the property at reasonable times. The lease prohibits subleasing and names Virginia courts as having jurisdiction over disputes.
