The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors authorized county staff to negotiate and execute a contract with L3Harris Technologies, Inc. for a county‑wide radio communications system on June 10, approving a contract price not to exceed $3.5 million and maintenance fees not to exceed $2.6 million over the 15‑year life of the system.
Cheryl Giggetts of CTA Consultants reported negotiations had begun after the May board meeting and that L3Harris had committed to a $3.5 million contract if executed by June 30. Giggetts said L3Harris "has satisfied most of the concerns presented at initial negotiation" and described the procurement as offering significant cost savings on a robust county‑wide system.
The board authorized contract negotiation and execution by unanimous roll call vote. Administrator Tracy M. Gee said the county is discussing options with Davenport to fund the radio system issuance because debt service will be required.
The motion authorizes staff to finalize terms and execute the contract within the stated caps; the final contract and financing arrangements will be returned to the board as required by procurement and debt issuance procedures.
