The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors on June 10 approved the Virginia Department of Transportation’s proposed Secondary Six‑Year Plan for fiscal years 2021/22 through 2027/28 and the FY2021/22 Secondary System Construction Program Budget.
Kevin Smith of VDOT presented the plan and noted the Transportation Committee’s recommendation. The plan lists roughly 20.05 miles of secondary roads with individual projects scheduled across 2022–2027 and an estimated total cost of $3,170,250. Sample projects include Renrut Road (1.1 miles, est. $173,000), Tinkling Road (0.7 miles, est. $111,000), St. John’s Church Road (1.5 miles, est. $235,000) and Powers Road (1.4 miles, est. $219,500).
Smith also reported operational impacts: mowing delays due to debris from February ice storms, plans for primary‑road mowing by VDOT crews and contractor mowing on secondary roads, followed by litter cleanup. He advised that the Hardy Road widening project remains in design and construction phases with a plan to request bids in 2022.
The board approved the plan during the public hearing and subsequent roll call approval of the listed public hearing items.
