Lunenburg supervisors approve Conditional Use Permit for Williams’ dance hall with conditions

The Lunenburg County Board of Supervisors voted June 10 to approve Conditional Use Permit CUP‑3‑21 for Wesley and Cassandra Williams to operate a dance hall at 25 Jackson Drive (tax parcel 034‑0A‑0‑70) in an A‑1 agricultural zone, with multiple conditions recommended by the Planning Commission.
Taylor Newton, Director of Community & Economic Development, read the Planning Commission’s recommended conditions, which include: adherence to the structure’s fire‑code maximum occupancy; provision of adequate ingress, egress and parking to allow first responders reasonable access; security present for events to control crowd behavior and noise (lack of security should result in prohibition of events); required building permits and passing building inspections prior to operation; an Event Permit requirement for gatherings of more than 100 people (events of 100 or fewer do not require an Event Permit); a monthly limit of 12 events; no overnight accommodations; adherence to the county noise ordinance; and a prohibition on alcohol on the parcel. The CUP is limited to Wesley and Cassandra Williams and does not run with the property.
Applicant Wesley Williams addressed the board, stating he had recently purchased the property and that the facility would be run professionally and thanked the board for their consideration. The board approved the CUP with the Planning Commission’s recommended conditions by roll call vote.
The CUP approval requires the Williamses to secure all applicable building and event permits, meet building and fire code inspections before opening, and coordinate ingress/egress plans with the Lunenburg County Sheriff’s Department when requested.
