Board schedules public hearing on redistricting maps; Red Brick Solar project remains on hold; small grants accepted

Assistant County Attorney DiStanislao presented two maps showing current and recommended district lines, noting Districts Two (Brown’s Store) and Six (Hounds Creek) saw the biggest changes. The board voted to hold a public hearing at its February meeting on the proposed lines and prepare to vote on a map and ordinance in March.
County Attorney Frank Rennie updated the board on solar projects, saying Red Brick Solar remains on hold while the developer evaluates additional fees levied by Dominion Energy. Rennie also noted that under the Meridian Waste contract, County fees are tied to the Consumer Price Index and that a 7.4% CPI increase raised the fees payable to the county.
Administrator Tracy M. Gee told the board the county received two grants: $2,171 from the Department of Criminal Justice Services for the Sheriff’s Department and $28,375 from the Library of Virginia for circuit court records conservation. The board accepted and appropriated both grants.
The board also entered a closed session under Virginia Code §2.2‑3711(A)(1) for a personnel performance evaluation and later voted to certify that the closed session complied with Virginia law.
